Review on NOCO GC018: Convenient 12-Volt Adapter Plug Socket with Eyelet Battery Terminals by Rubeen Black

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Warning: Appears to be aluminum wire, not copper - may not meet 15A rating

We have just purchased this for use with our AGM solar/12v camping power system. For compatibility with this system, the tabs have been replaced with Anderson Pole connectors. When stripping wires for Anderson Pole connectors, we noticed what appeared to be 100% aluminum wires instead of "100% high conductivity copper wires rated at 15 amps" in the product description. As some of the copper wires are tinned to resist corrosion, we have also carefully examined the cut ends of the wires and so far found no evidence of copper wire. See both pictures of the NOCO adapter with bare wire ends. Because aluminum can only handle 61% of the current of a copper wire of the same gauge, this item can only guarantee a 9 amp current rating (unless the manufacturer has used quality wire insulation rated to withstand at least 90 degrees Celsius, see the online wire current chart) im Compared to the advertised rating of 15 amps which is a significant risk as the seller's photos show that it connects directly to car batteries which can handle hundreds of amps in the event of a wire melt in a short circuit. Gave the NOCO adapter two stars because we can still use it as planned for applications that require less than 5 amps and replaced the 7.5 amp fuse with the 15 amp fuse that was included mitigate the above risk associated with cables.
