Review on ๐Ÿšด Planet Bike Auto Head Floor Pump by Jerry Forehand

Works great and will likely match your brand of pump

My OEM pump head started to leak after years of reliable use. I took it apart, found the problem and realized that the manufacturer didn't make a recovery kit. Knowing nothing about bike pumps, I do a lot of reading to find out if I need a head, a head and tube, or a brand new pump. Oddly enough, I haven't found much useful information online, so let me tell you what I learned empirically during this process: 1. Heads have a barb that fits into the hose and a flare nut that tightens the hose against the barb presses2. Hose and barb appear to be standard sizes3. This allows you to use one brand of pump head with a different brand of pump. I don't know if that applies to everyone, but I've used three heads from three different manufacturers on the same pump (Topeak Joe Blow Sport) and they all worked. Of the three heads I've used - OEM Topeak, SKS Racor, and this Planet Bike Auto - the Planet Bike head is the best (assuming it lasts). Here's why I like the Planet Bike Auto head: + Single Port - Single port works with Schrader and Presta valves without having to flip internal parts. Not sure how the magic happens, but you just push the valve all the way in (the Presta goes in a little further), flip the locking lever and start pumping. I was skeptical at first, but works great. + Minimal Leakage - Very little air comes out when disconnected, which I appreciate when inflating tires on our road bikes (i.e. low volume, high pressure). + Relatively small - This may not matter on adult road/MTB bikes, but it helps on my kid's 20" 48 spoke BMX bikes that have little clearance around the valve stem. (the middle one in the photo, which only lasted 1 month) is noticeably heavier and sits tighter on the valve. Out of the box this is a 5 star purchase. Time will tell if it stays that way.
