WOW! What an upgrade!

I have been actively using the CPR123/129 series (original) for a while and really enjoy the depth of information and intuitive user interface of these devices. I just bought a CRP129E and the difference in performance and capability is night and day. Love the fact that the first thing it does after it detects a vehicle is create a "Diagnostic Report" and report all codes from all supported systems. As such, it allows you to dive right into the various PIDs from which these codes were derived, right from the Report screen. The new, larger screen is easier to read (higher contrast, sharper, brighter) and the device's battery life is exceptional. The recording feature is also amazing. I recorded a live data stream for 10 simultaneous PIDs. Once recorded, they can be played back in text format and/or graphic format. Playback supports two graphs (independent) or 4 PID controller graphs (combined). The playback timeline can be scrolled, paused, viewed, etc. There is a lot of power in graphics. I recently used it to check sensor 02 data return and set fuel delivery to normal after detecting and repairing an intake manifold leak. I recorded a series of 1/2 short term/long term fuel trims as well as 02 sensor 1 bank 1/2 and O2 sensor 2 bank 1/2 data which I later replayed and dubbed to make sure that the trims and 02 sensors were tracking as and expected, during the 30 minute ride i snagged the data! 30 minutes! Using the screenshot feature in combination with real-time capture/plotting is another nugget Launch has built into the device. I noticed a few little things, like the movable back button, which is a duplicate of the stock Android back button. This may hide some information. However, just move it to another location. It cannot be switched on/off. It's a small thing, nothing complicated. And I wish the OBD2 cable was a bit longer. Difficult to get the device into my truck (a full size Silverado) for a drive test. It barely reaches the center console. Again no problem. Longer OBD2 cables or an extension cable are easy to get. All in all, with a reset function (throttle, oil life, SAS, etc.), this tool has everything a human could possibly need. In fact, this tool covers most workshop jobs without the high cost of an OEM product. It's just a good investment!

Pros
  • The best in their niche
Cons
  • The list will be long.
