As other reviewers note, the round flat gear tends to fail most often in the opener. This repair kit contains parts for different model types, so you probably won't need them all. But my personal suggestion is that as long as you have the device, why not replace as many of the parts in your opener (especially if you're mechanically inclined) that are duplicated in the kit. This will further extend the life of your opener. This applies in particular to the worm gear. While it doesn't usually appear worn, and certainly not as much as a round gear, it has actually seen some wear. Two new parts working against each other are usually always better than a new one and an old and worn one. The only really "intimidating" part of the whole operation is removing the steel roller pins used to attach the gears to the shafts. Unless you have a dedicated punching tool (like most people do), try using a set of nails with a tip size as close to the diameter of the roll pins as possible. Do not use nails that are too small as this will widen the end of the pin and make it even more difficult to remove. A few good hits with a hammer and the pins come out, albeit not easily. And as mentioned before, be generous with the lube provided on BOTH gears as the new round flat gear will fail again, this time without enough lube for days. Have fun!
