Coarse grit pads smooth the surface but after you've run 800 and should be well polished each pad seems to have at least 2 or 3 grains of very coarse grit embedded in it, leaving HUGE scratches on the smooth surface. I was even able to find out where the bad grain was and seal it with tape and then cut that protruding foot off the entire backing, which helped but resulted in having to repolish several times when I located the bad grain. A 2 hour job becomes a 12 hour job. All you had to do was pay more and get quality pads with some level of quality control.
