Okay folks, today's word sucks. However, all is not lost. The screw that holds the handle to the crank arm is tightened or loosened depending on which way the crank is turned. For the solution I used some very cheap items. Longer bolts (length may vary due to non-standard manufacturing) Black nylon flanged rubber grommets that fit in and around the bolt hole. Finally two nylon or teflon washers. One goes to the shoulder on the handle itself, and the other to the screw. You want the screw to be a little longer so it can be turned, but with minimal play. Now they work great and it took quite a while to fix them. I have to repaint them because of an accidental scratch.
