The paper smells like industrial toilet paper (not the paper you buy in the store, but the toilet paper you use in the office). I suspect it has to do with the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. It stinks to be honest. While it's fine for cleaning, I'm not sure I'd use it for eating myself just in case the stink gets on the food. These are nothing but high quality thick paper towels. I think this trend towards reusable paper towels comes from certain segments of the Asian population that like to be efficient and reuse paper towels that are not heavily used. In America, I think this practice is much rarer. I would treat it like thick paper towels. This is ideal for use in the automotive industry where you need something durable yet disposable material.
