Review on Motive Products - 1115 Large Chevrolet Plastic/Wilwood Adapter by Ronald Ingram

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The thing is gigantic.

I used a Motive pressure relief device. since the time of the dinosaurs. This is a phenomenal product that makes working with brakes and clutches a breeze. Motive works well for most of my vehicles with screw-top containers, but the weak point has always been the large plastic adapter used for household containers. It never seals properly. Apparently Motive replaced a poorly designed plastic part with aluminum years ago and I've finally had enough of it. so i bought this. I have four machines at home that use a rectangular tank - three would be fine with the "small" 1105 adapter, but one of them needs this huge 1115. So follow the "one adapter" approach to them all to control". now i have it. No wonder it worked great. Here's the approach: 1. Don't mess with J hooks unless necessary. Buy a GIANT C-Clip and use it to hold the adapter in place. You don't need a lot of strength. Be careful not to damage the master cylinder, its plastic reservoir, or the rubber grommets that attach the reservoir to the master cylinder. You just have to hold it in place! 2. Apply 5-8 psi of AIR to the bleed valve and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to ensure you have a good seal. Do not add brake fluid to the bleed until you are sure you will. Otherwise you will have a mess.3. DO NOT overfill the tank. It doesn't need to be maximized. Half full is great. Have an air cushion in the tank. Bleeding only adds brake fluid and replaces what you bled. Soaking the adapter rubber in brake fluid will result in a sad and short lifespan. AIRBAG.4. I don't know what people are doing online, but you do NOT need 15psi bleed to bleed your brakes. Yes, the scale goes to 30 or so. This is an indicator, not a benchmark. In probably 100 cars I've never used more than 8psi of pressure. You just need to let the brake fluid flow, don't fly into space. Try 5psi - if that's enough to get a steady flow from the exhaust valve, stay at that level. Check once at each corner, increase to 5-8 psi. Pedal for an hour or useless vacuum pumping. Give Motive your money and get things done faster.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
