Have been using the meter for a few months. Pinless sampling has both advantages and disadvantages over its pinned counterpart. Sampling with pins requires the meter's two probes to be inserted into the material, while the non-pin meter simply needs to be held against it to calculate moisture content. The disadvantage of this method is that the entire sensor plate must be contacted to ensure the accuracy of the readings. This may not be possible with thin material or in confined spaces. The second problem concerns device calibration. MD918 Dr.Meter can do self-calibration, which should improve accuracy. However, it does seem to require frequent recalibration, which can be annoying. Finally, the device turns off automatically after a certain period of time. This is good for those who forget and leave the device turned on after use, but for me, who uses it to monitor the moisture content of a large number of boards, the meter seems to turn off at inopportune moments during data collection and needs to be turned on again and if necessary, recalibrate before continuing. But overall I like the device and will continue to use it.
