Review on 🟑 Bilstein 24-197717 Yellow Shock Absorber: Enhanced Performance and Durability by Lenny Sullivan

Not for everyone

Well, first of all I have no doubts about the quality of the rack mount. I have used Bilstein struts and shock absorbers in the past and have been very happy with them. *IF* it works for you I'm sure it will be a quality part. I have Bilstein racks in the back of my Expedition and love them. I wanted the same racks on all four corners but... they don't fit my truck and they may not fit yours. The reason for my three star rating is poor parts supply. Bilstein does not use a lower spring plate with this shock absorber. They do it with many others, but not this one. If you have factory racks in good condition, this is not a problem. You take off your old one, put it on the Bilstein and go about your business. However, if your struts have ever been changed in the past, you may have an aftermarket strut and bracket that may not be factory size and therefore will NOT work with Bilstein shocks. You can be left aloft with your truck like me, forced to stay up all night, then get stuck buying more expensive and inferior parts from the store just to get your truck back on the road and then your shiny new Bilstein - Get porters back. You can see in my photo that the brace is in a very different location on the brace that came out of my truck (Monroe I think) compared to the new Bilsteins. You may also notice that the diameter is different. Even if the bracket were at the same height, the perch would just fall past it. I'm not the first to come across this, so Bilstein is no doubt aware of the issue, but decides not to provide a perch. As these trucks age, it becomes more and more likely that they'll get a second set of racks (I've got 169,000 now, time for a second set). This means that more and more people are facing this problem. Shame on Bilstein for cheapening its customers and leaving them in difficult situations.
