I'm relatively new to knitting. I learned a little when I was a kid, but I never learned enough to be competent. Picked up recently. I decided to try a few different types of needles. Bamboo was useful initially because I didn't have much control. They soon became too slow for me, even though they were waxed. I decided to try them because I needed light but big needles for bulky yarn. They worked great. They're definitely not too sharp, so if you're the person pushing the needle to remove a stitch, you won't hurt yourself. I think as I practiced I decided I liked the sharper tip.
