There are two types of FireWire, 400 and 800. Especially if you have "old" computers - and by older I mean you didn't get them yesterday bought - you will encounter this problem. This little device solves those problems: just plug it in. Since it was ($8?) well below what I was willing to pay, I didn't ask the price. I noticed that the $20 option sold at my local electronics store with bulky boxes (which is almost never your best buy) costs something like $20 and comes with a cord - why? Of course, since you've had a computer for some time, you have a FireWire cable, what you don't have is a cable with 400 on one end and 800 on the other. And now you do. So this little thing that adds to your existing cable is all you need.
