Better Than Nothing

I bought this unit to pump grout into the open space between a new shower pan and an existing bathroom floor. I should have filled the area with mortar or grout before installing the shower pan, but skipped that step during the shower installation. I drilled several ΒΎ inch holes from the basement through the sub floor into the open space under the shower pan. The grout had to be mixed to a 'non-running' consistency to avoid leakage through the sub-floor and through the fill holes. Tube, plunger and nozzle, I wasn't able to suck the mixed solution through the nozzle to fill the tube. No muscular strength and no colorful tongue would have allowed me to pump mortar from the mixing bucket into the empty pipe of the mortar pump. The only way to load grout into the tube was to make a large funnel out of a piece of 2" x 4" thick plastic sheeting and tape, unscrew the nozzle on the grout pump, tighten the plastic tube and threads on the plastic clean the nozzle, fill the pipe with grout, pour it into the empty pipe through a makeshift funnel, and then screw the nozzle back onto the pipe. It was the work of three people: one person mixed the solution, a second person held the empty tube and funnel in place, and a third person poured the solution into the funnel. The biggest challenge was keeping the plastic threads on the nozzle and tube clean so the nozzle could be screwed back on every time. The work was quite tedious, but it worked. Although we finally figured out how to use a "mortar pump" to fill the void under a shower pan, I gave it two stars and titled this review Better than Nothing. No instructions or information were provided that the pump must be disassembled, cleaned and manually filled through a large funnel every time the solution is mixed thicker than a milkshake consistency.
