This works great on its own and overcomes the limitations of any Wi-Fi only setup. It's solidly built, well packaged, and feels like it's meant to last. Note. You can skip this comment if you have more than one 3.0 slot available. On my Microsoft Surface Pro, which only comes with 1 3.0 slot, I'm using an external USB hub and the RJ45 connection seems to conflict with my other devices (mouse, keyboard, external HD). I tried it on two different hubs and both external devices stopped working and I only have one network connection. I wouldn't be surprised if something about the Surface architecture messed things up; Of course, there are many other failures in this first-generation Microsoft machine that collectively cost them a billion dollars in losses in 2013.
