The tip is sharp and you hold it with just three fingers.
I make the first cut with this and try to cut the skin into a nice spiral. The tip is a little pointy to me, but it's fully functional and part of the design - it wouldn't work as well or look as good if it were blunt. I wish it was a little bigger to fit my hand better.
