If you're like me you already have a traditional micrometer that works relatively cheaply, but then again if you're like me you've had trouble reading the damn thing properly. I've taken measurements on a lathe with a micrometer and then checked them with calipers and that's not the best workflow. So this tool is a game changer for me - it reads up to half a ten thousandth and just tells you what you have without even thinking. I still use a digital caliper and a vernier caliper (meaning measure one and then check how far I got with the other) but when I want to know exactly what diameter my part is I use this tool. as my source of truth. You can spend more money on a digital microphone, but I think it will return less - for a serious hobbyist workshop this is probably one of the best items for the money.
