Review on Centerforce N1764 Throw Out Bearing by Dylan Goins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly Recommended: Replacement Parts

The throwout bearing on my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited started to squeak loudly and continues to deteriorate. My mechanic buddy told me that you have to remove the transmission to get to the throwout bearing, so if you want to change the throwout bearing you have to replace the clutch. I originally ordered a clutch replacement kit, a standard jeep brand, and all the bearings that came with them were very light and cheap. I found a center throw out bearing at Revain and read all the good reviews so I ordered this part as part of my spares kit. Once I got the throwout bearing, the difference between the center pull and the kit bearings was day and night. The center thrust bearing is a solid, heavy piece of metal, making the kit bearing look like cheap foil. I was so impressed with the quality and durability that I returned the full clutch kit, bit the bullet and ordered a Center Force clutch. I've read on many Jeep forums that the Center Force clutch was overdone in the Jeep Wrangler and that may be true. My experience with mid-thrust and release clutches is that you get what you pay for - a more expensive clutch. There is, but if you want quality, spend the extra money and choose Center Force. I have 197,000 miles on my 2008 JK, and like any Jeep Wrangler owner who loves their Jeep and wants to get 400-500,000 miles out of it, I replace parts with better parts. Clutch pressure is excellent, not too firm or weak, still plenty of pedalling. Shifting is like a sports car, smooth shifting. My old clutch had trouble finding reverse, now it shifts just as easily as before. I recommend that if you need to replace the clutch you use a center force and center force bearing.
