After more than a decade of professional pastel experience and working on almost every surface used for pastel, I now work EXCLUSIVELY with Pastelmat. Although the initial investment price is slightly higher than other types of paper, Pastelmat is never wasted. Rather than throwing away bad paintings, the dust can be brushed off and/or manipulated to create a different toned or underpainted surface. It also has the property of not dusting AND allowing colors to mix like liquid pigments on the surface, reducing the need for so many different colors while using fewer of my precious pastels. You can use a soft, velvety original finish or apply a top coat to create a more textured finish. Taking all of these factors into account, I believe this is the most economical paper on the market. As an educator, I start by using this support for students and then suggest that they try other documents. Without exception, they all come back with the same opinion as me.
