Review on Mediasonic USB 3.1 4 Bay 3.5” SATA Hard Drive Enclosure - High-Speed USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C/USB-C (10Gbps) for Efficient Data Transfer by James Townsend

Nice little cage suitable for hard drive accessories

Been using for a month. Rugged design, somewhat awkward drive layout, but I typically work with enterprise storage arrays (20,000+) with 45-120 drives each. so no valid comparison. Tested for a few days with some old HGST drives that got very hot. I tore off the door, bought a filter and a variator for the front of the unit, which helped. A few days later I installed two WD Red NAS drives, which are much slower - the fan probably wasn't needed at that point. The "server room" (aka garage, no temp control) was 36-38 with HGST and runs cool to 26 with WD. How it comes in and how the drive is mounted. The controller is a PCIe to USB 3.1 Gen 2, with the included USB cable that came with the device. No speed issues - you can easily max two WDs. SSD isn't much - but that's still it with relatively fast transfer times averaging 385 MB/s. About half as much as WD (configured in the ZFS mirror). Plan to restart your server cyclically (processes get blocked quickly, not Mediasonic's fault, just the nature of the USB beast in general). Пока вы планируете удаление диска, это действительно подключи и играй (замена неисправного для другого, например).Честно говоря, за деньги, которые на 30 долларов больше, чем один WD Red на 4 ТБ, это того стоит.Я планирую купить второй д один in the near future. Wouldn't mind seeing an 8 bay system at some point. I suspect that there is a temperature sensor somewhere inside the device that controls the automatic fan on the back. Despite hot days and cold nights, I've never seen it exceed first fan speed, which I felt should have been at some point. Summer will tell. As already mentioned, the power supply is connected on the side. It didn't bother me, but it might if I care. Mods Front Fan: GDSTIME 120mm AC 110V 220V DC 12V Variable Speed Fan for Receiver Amplifier DVR Playstation Xbox Component Cooling ($20) Filter in front of the fan. (it's a garage so the spiders don't get in): Duck Brand A/C Foam Replacement Filter, 24" x 15" x 1/4", 1285234 ($5, cut to size)
