Overheat warning noted

I've read all the complaints about reduced airflow when the faceplate was closed causing drives to overheat and I figured I could fix this problem with a Dremel and a fan filter fix/ grill. And that's exactly what I did! I ordered 120mm Computer Fan Filter Grille (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FYY6641/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), made a rough line from the front, drilled two holes at the top, with Machine screws and nuts attached, then traced the grille on the back…

Works well: Computer accessories and peripherals

Well after a little checking I noticed that some versions have different fronts. The "latest" 2019 version is the version with the lower front vent, like mine. When I received the package, the picture showed the fully closed front version, with no vents, but when I opened it, it was the vented version. moves slightly vertically when pressed. HDD2: Sat FineHDD3: Sat FineHDD4: When the HDD was inserted, it was not fixed and the HDD moved slightly vertically when pressed.*: There is a bezel in…

Unless you are an expert, avoid this at all costs.

For some reason my write speed to every drive I install is absolutely minimal at around 13MB/s after a quick spike at startup. I've tried different drives, I've tried setting them up as a raid, I've uninstalled and reinstalled them, none of it makes a difference. Their customer support is non-existent - there is no help to ensure the drives are configured. The instruction manual is simple and practically functionless. When you visit their website, the product link is broken and has been there…

High performance at a reasonable price

I'm using this with a 2018 iMac Pro connected directly to a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port. I run all SSDs in a non-RAID configuration. The speeds are as expected, depending on the SSD model. When I first ran it, I was also using Soft Raid and encountered data corruption, erratic Smart Status alerts, and spontaneous drive eject issues. Whether this is just related to Soft Raid or is there a conflict between Soft Raid and this device, I just don't know. I know that after I uninstalled all Soft Raid…

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Nice compact case, it's *very* quiet, durable and as fast as the drives you put in it. Hardware RAID system (Mediasonic will release it soon). But I knew I would use an Intel NUC with Linux to create a SAN. It's roughly the same price as hardware RAID solutions, but uses open source and the NUC can do other chores. I have a NUC that connects to this array via USB 3.1 and uses the network via Thunderbolt 3 to send 40Gbps to my Macbook Pro (yes, 40X faster than Gigabit Ethernet! Required for 4K…

Pros
  • Decent performance

Runs like a hard drive case champion

HF7-SU31C) Purchased: July 18, 2020 System: ASRock X570 STEEL LEGEND WIFI AX AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard; AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 8 Core 3.7GHz (4.3GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 105W Desktop Processor Platform: MS Windows 10 Pro 64-bit I have 10 SSDs in a 2020 build described above. I had replaced (2) WD 1TB HDDs, (1) Seagate 1TB HDD and (1) Seagate 500GB HDD with (4) SSDs. I bought a Mediasonic HF7-SU31C to install these hard drives. The discs contained many photos, videos and graphics…

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • So far so good

Good:* This device runs USB 3.1 and has fantastic transfer speeds.* The case is nice and looks very modern* The drive bays fit snugly enough that there is no noticeable rattling or noise from the hard drives Bad: * The creators clearly told the engineers to get lost and decided to make it too functional. There is a fan and air vent in the back, but NO vents in the front to allow air to flow through the windows. I mean come on Mediasonic!. Radiant cooling only works when air can enter, flow…

  • Handy item

Nice little cage suitable for hard drive accessories

Been using for a month. Rugged design, somewhat awkward drive layout, but I typically work with enterprise storage arrays (20,000+) with 45-120 drives each. so no valid comparison. Tested for a few days with some old HGST drives that got very hot. I tore off the door, bought a filter and a variator for the front of the unit, which helped. A few days later I installed two WD Red NAS drives, which are much slower - the fan probably wasn't needed at that point. The "server room" (aka garage, no…
