I am an engineer with experience in temperature measurement. I compared the accuracy of the SP Bel-Art HB glass thermometer to a NIST-certified digital thermometer in our lab. In the NIST 32.5 F ice bath, the glass thermometer read 29 F, error 3.5 degrees F. At room temperature, NIST 74.1 F, the glass thermometer read 69 F, error 5.1 degrees F. In the NIST hot bath, 162.0 F, Glass thermometer read 156 F. , 6 degrees Fahrenheit error. That big error, 3.5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit, is awful and unacceptable. The error is similar to a cheap thermometer in the store.
