Measured values are represented by dotted lines.

Multi Column Split Thermometer. Suggested fixes have been implemented. Do not go. Finally, after 3 days of tapping, the column was fully connected and ready to use. The next thermometer will be mercury instead of "easy to read".

Pros
  • Manufactured and tested by our US Quality Control team; Traced to NIST
Cons
  • Doubtful Received

Inaccurate - 5 degrees above normal

If any other Thermometer shows 70 degrees, this one shows 75 degrees. Too bad I didn't test it sooner so I can send it back. I tested it again in ice cold and boiling water. It was accurate at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but registered 216 degrees Fahrenheit at boiling point - 4 degrees higher.

Pros
  • Ideal for use in chemical/petrochemical laboratories, universities, academic institutions, the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and medical industries, dairies, breweries and distilleries
Cons
  • So far, so good

OFF Calibration!

A few days after it arrived I tested it in a thermostatic stirring bath with three medical grade thermometers and a platinum RTD PID temperature controller. Medical thermometers and the PID controller differed within 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit - 95.0 degrees Fahrenheit of each other. This product differed by six degrees. Pooh! I gave two stars instead of one because I like the black liquid vs the yellow. It's really easy to read.

Pros
  • HB instrument thermometers are NOT intended for human use.
Cons
  • Many things.

I am an engineer with experience in temperature measurement. I compared the accuracy of the SP Bel-Art HB glass thermometer to a NIST-certified digital thermometer in our lab. In the NIST 32.5 F ice bath, the glass thermometer read 29 F, error 3.5 degrees F. At room temperature, NIST 74.1 F, the glass thermometer read 69 F, error 5.1 degrees F. In the NIST hot bath, 162.0 F, Glass thermometer read 156 F. , 6 degrees Fahrenheit error. That big error, 3.5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit, is awful and…

Part of the product description reads: **Made and tested.

Part of the product description reads: **Manufactured and tested by our Quality Control team in the USA; Traceability to NIST**This implies some sort of quality control in terms of accuracy, particularly in relation to claiming NIST traceability. This accuracy is also stated in the product description:**Range: -10/110°C; division: 1°C; Accuracy: ±0.5°C, ±1°C below 0°C and above 70°C; ** When tested in real life using not only a properly certified NIST-traceable thermometer, but also known and…

Pros
  • Includes a multilingual (English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish) Declaration of Accuracy and Traceability
Cons
