Review on πŸ“± Wireless Duplex Mobile Color Page Scanner - Brother RDS-920DW by Jeremy Black

My experience with the Brother RDS-920DW

I am satisfied with this scanner. I have few complaints. My use: I usually scan in ReadIRIS for MacOS XI, I usually use an SD card, then move the SD card to a Mac and then load the PDF or JPG files into ReadIRIS Pro*. I don't usually scan USB and rarely use the Wi-Fi feature - WiFi is ok, not a very useful feature but not terrible. Sometimes when I scan duplex via USB, the back side comes up with inverted white to black and vice versa, which is quite annoying. So usually, to my heart's delight, I can just put it on an SD card - it's VERY easy. Switching from simplex to duplex scanning is very easy. Switching between JPG or PDF is also easy with the buttons on the scanner. I usually do JPG. Because, the reason I don't process PDFs with a scanner is that PDFs aren't recognized until I run them through an OCR software like ReadIRIS* and I don't want to be fooled into assuming that a PDF is searchable if it is just an image and not searchable. So I tend to use JPG when scanning. ReadIRIS Pro can easily convert JPG scans to PDF. Part of the reason I scan is because I want to use optical character recognition (OCR) to make the document electronically searchable! Then maybe I can find them by the content of the words! What am I scanning the most? I scan a lot of bank and health/insurance documents, which I receive for caring for my father. This saves me a lot of storage/registration time. Unfortunately, many of these documents are not or only with difficulty available in digital form. It also facilitates communication with my brothers and sisters who live many hours away from me. Battery: all ok. If I'm scanning a few 10's of documents a day I might get annoyed more, but it doesn't matter if I'm scanning 5-10's of documents every few days. I charge the battery via USB every few weeks. Size/weight: good! I like it. Easy to store and handle. feeding problems? Not that bad. It's a bit delicate but comes with a plastic paper holder which can be helpful if the paper is a little warped or oddly shaped. *ReadIRIS Pro scanning software sold separately.
