Great device automation, but read on for initial connection issues

I currently have a myLink device set up and it's working great (I'll get back to that later), but initial connection issues are a real problem. Every time I ran the application's connection wizard, in the fourth and final step, my Fios router would not connect to the myLink device. Tried it twice next to the canopy I use it for and then twice next to my router but the connection didn't work. I saw an online video from Somfy about this, but their suggestions didn't solve the problem. How do I connect my myLink device? After following the following 2 steps: 1) I manually added the device's MAC address (listed on the device) and an unused local IP address to my router's configuration. 2) After entering my WiFi username and password in the myLink app, I chose Static, not DHCP. Then I entered the IP address from step #1, the subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0), and then my router's local IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) in the last two digits. Note that the router's subnet mask and IP address are always listed somewhere in the router configuration. As soon as I did that next, the myLink device connected immediately in step 4. Hooray for me! However, here's the problem. This would likely cause most other users to send the device back because not many people are fiddling with their routers. I just hope myLink can resolve this as well in relation to Debbie because once you connect the mylink device to the automated world will be your oyster I can open the canopy from anywhere inside or outside the network, stop or close, and that's it almost instantly ennr. I downloaded Alexa Skills to be able to open/stop/close it with my voice. I've even used IFTTT and webhooks to put Siri in the auto fun!

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Having issues
