The first thing to know is that this unit gets very hot and should have a stronger cooling solution aside from the plastic construction in my opinion. I bought aluminum mini heatsinks to help it. Now it only works hand warm. I bought this to adapt Apple's Cinema Display HD mini DP (which was originally dual DVI, which is then converted to mini DP with an Apple adapter). This device fits my laptop's HDMI output and cinema display. It was a little fussy, so I'm now powered by a USB wall charger. It looks like it's plug and play now. Other accessories I use in this chain include: an HDMI extender, a USB data switch, and a full-size mini DP to DP adapter.
