I have been using this exact battery service tool for about seven years now. Very reliable and safe. Need a second one and after looking at everything currently available this still looks like the best price for a good safe battery service. I don't use them to charge a dead or even dead or supposedly bad battery. They are designed so that a good battery can survive cold or long periods, so your good battery doesn't run out of juice and freeze up or have a short lifespan, and keep it running when you need to start the engine. Normal car batteries are not designed for deep cycling. Their lifespan will be reduced if left low and then recharged. Conventional batteries require maintenance with a minimum of discharge and recharge. They do what they call deep circle batteries, for example trolling from a boat. I don't think these or any other battery holders are designed for these batteries. I mean really, if a battery is supposed to be fully discharged and then recharged (with a more powerful charger), what do you care if it's dead? Just charge it when it's empty. No battery should remain discharged. This leads to a breakdown of the coating in the battery.
