TLDR; GREAT customer service - the drill ended up working great. This drill worked well and cut like butter. But when I took it out of the third hole, the carbide broke off on one side (see picture). The chisel kept cutting and stayed the same shape after the 7th hole. My guess is that this is a manufacturing defect of the carbide. Let's see what DeWalt has to say and if their "uptime guarantee" will help me. Apart from the chip it's 5 stars so far. I'll post a little more on the wear and tear and whether DeWalt lived up to its warranty. **Update** In the end, a simple call to DeWalt was enough and they sent a new drill bit - no questions asked. While waiting for his arrival, I continued drilling with fringed carbide. Not reported effective but drilled 21 more holes (9 in. deep) in granite and no further complications. The remaining carbide looks the same as after the 3rd hole. So bad piece of hard metal? Maybe. Take care of it No complaints and worth the money.
