I love this tool! It's so soft and flexible, perfect for cycling. Sometimes I just prefer to use something soft and flexible instead of a metal rib. This is great because it won't rust or cut your fingers like other sharp metal ribs usually do. This is great to use when throwing something off center as it's kinder to the pot than a metal fin. As an advanced potter I find this to be helpful because if I use too much force my pot usually just falls off when I use the metal rib. But this rib allows me to apply enough force and also to be gentler with the figure so that it doesn't fall off so easily. I'm not a master, so it's difficult to find a balance between power and control; so i appreciate any help i can get. Another great addition is that I use it to compress and flatten my foot while finishing my haircut so it doesn't scratch tables. For me it is very important and especially in this rib. Because the rib is so soft and flexible, it can take many forms such as: B. a foot. I also use it to compress and smooth other parts of my dry skin when I want to. I usually like to use it where I want to chat because it creates a very smooth surface that contrasts well with the chatter. I also like to use it when attaching handles to my mugs. If I want it to be seamless, I don't want to just use my finger to smudge where I put the pen because it won't fit in the gap. So I use it especially for the top two handle joints where the gap is very small and cannot be flattened like the bottom joints. I use this rib to slide in, apply some pressure to further secure it, and also smooth it out for aesthetic reasons. I can't use a metal rib because it just cuts and slices the clay. This rib is ideal because it has soft, thin tips that then gradually thicken. So it fits geometrically very well in the gaps. I used to use the side of the needle to fit in there as best as I could, but it's straight and not flexible so it can't get into the nooks and crannies as much as this rib. I would make more mistakes to make up for it, which would only lead to more frustration and wasted time. But it turned out so beautiful! I've only been using this rib for a short time and have fallen in love with it and its multiple uses. I really recommend getting this rib if you haven't already. I've tried other rubber ribs that just don't compare because they are so thick and stiff. I would rather use a metal fin than other rubber fins because honestly it's a waste of money. Unless you want very soft ribs, I know Sherrill has stiffer ribs that are still reasonably soft and pliable. Great product, I love it and it's worth a lot more than the $9.99 free shipping I paid for! And to be honest I don't pay more than a few bucks for most of the instruments I buy as I only use a few and there are others lying around in the studio. So, I know $9.99 doesn't sound cheap to everyone, but this rib is definitely worth more than it's worth. Not to mention the quality of the rubber they use is amazing and well beyond what I paid for it. I'm not a sponsor or anything and I didn't get a discount for my review, I'm just a college student who fell in love with ceramics and loves that damn rib. I would highly recommend it for beginners and of course everyone else (although I'm sure you've heard of mud tools and that rib). I'm telling you it saves a life, I'll probably go with other rib sizes because I really like it.
