My laptop's keys don't have a backlight, so it's difficult to work at night or in low-light conditions. This lamp provides enough light to work, but is not that annoying. There are 3 settings that you can adjust to your liking. The "cable" could be a bit longer to help in situations where the USB port is on the "wrong" side of the laptop, but that's more a matter of personal preference as to where you put the light want to position. It works perfectly on both the right and left side of the laptop. For the price you can't go wrong!
