This item was originally purchased in Plastic. The plastic was fine - same performance and insulation. But it didn't make the cocktails cold, and it certainly didn't make a special shaker noise. The stainless steel shaker is another excellent product from OXO. There are measurement markings on the lid, the lid has a built in strainer that seals tight, and the shaker itself really cools the mix down with that wonderful cocktail shaker sound. Don't forget to wrap the shaker in a bar towel or tea towel when shaking - it gets VERY cold!
