Good pump, poor float switch performance

This pump is of high quality and pumps large volumes quickly. However, there is one BIG problem - the built-in float switch. The problem is that the float area is non-adjustable and too small for your average sump. The pump only pumps about 5 inches of water out of a 22 inch diameter pit in one cycle, taking less than 3 seconds and leaving about 4 inches of water at the bottom of the pit. In our setup this meant the pump would come on every five minutes or less and only run for 2-3 seconds each time as we usually have a constant trickle of water during rainy seasons. I had to buy an adjustable dual on/off float switch and bypass the one on the pump so I could have the pump wait until a lot more water got into the hole before turning it on and not turning it off until it just ran out about 2 cm was left. Residual water, with this setting the pump runs much less frequently. This solved the problem, but a high-quality double float or electronic switch is not cheap, so it greatly increases installation costs and requires extra labor.
