doesn't always work

This will work very well for about a month. Pumps a lot of water quickly. But lately it has stopped working in the evenings. All I have to do is go downstairs and tap the drain pump lightly or the drain tube in the drain pump will start working again. But that's because there was 2 inches of water in the basement four times. Very frustrating. I emailed the manufacturer and they stated that they have a small air bubble in them. But it is, and he has no solutions to fix it.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Drill your own pit

The best sump pump money can buy. Nothing can stop him from work. One minor issue is that the metal air hole in the pump will inevitably become clogged with dirt or rust, so you'll need to drill a small 3/8" drain hole in the exhaust pipe about 8" above the base of the pump before using one Path. Check valve. This vent allows trapped air to escape and allows the pump to prime itself. If you get a large enough air bubble, the pump will run continuously and burn out without pumping water. Vents…

Dry socks are not overrated.

I've had one before and it's lasted 15 years with no problems. He died on a Sunday afternoon when Home Depot was the only store open. I was leaking water so I had to switch it to FloTec. This pump lasted two years so I went back to Old Faithful. Solid construction, powerful and quite quiet. The reason for the four stars is the need to drill a 3/16 inch hole in the outlet tube so there is no plug. My pit isn't closed and it's impossible to position this hole so that the narrow shot jet doesn't…

  • Best in its niche

Terrible packaging - opened immediately

Item received on time. Installing a drain pump for our new home took a long time. Yesterday I opened the box and found that the piece of metal covering the power cord was broken and another piece of protection was crushed to pieces. The device cannot be used in this state. The pump is quite heavy for its size and the only packaging in the box was a small piece of cardboard on top. Whether during storage or shipping, when we opened it our returns window was closed. I'm embarrassed that I didn't…

  • Excellent design

Faulty float switch.

Bought 5 years ago after hearing good reviews of this pump (bought a second one for a different one a year later). A few weeks ago I noticed my backup battery pump turning on. The switch did not turn on the Zoeller M53 pump even though the float was fully submerged in water. Slight pressure on the float turns the pump on. After some research I ordered a new float switch and replaced it. (The float ball was clean, free of obstructions, and not filled with water.) The new switch did not fix the…

  • Great price
Cons
  • Not automatic

Broke after 5 months of short use!

The pump works perfectly and is well built. Unfortunately, the float that turns it on and off when it reaches a certain water level is very poorly designed and its weakest part. After only 5 months of use in California drought conditions (i.e. very little use) the rod guide, a 1/2" x 3" rubber band with a hole, broke in that hole. This strap is used to hold the float upright so the water can lift it straight up, activating the switch. It's easy to change, but you have to take the entire pump…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Some faults

Good pump, poor float switch performance

This pump is of high quality and pumps large volumes quickly. However, there is one BIG problem - the built-in float switch. The problem is that the float area is non-adjustable and too small for your average sump. The pump only pumps about 5 inches of water out of a 22 inch diameter pit in one cycle, taking less than 3 seconds and leaving about 4 inches of water at the bottom of the pit. In our setup this meant the pump would come on every five minutes or less and only run for 2-3 seconds each

Pros
  • Trial period for one year
Cons
  • Volume

Incompatible with GFI schema

Due to the high ratings I bought this pump in September to use as an underground drain pump when it started raining in November. Right after I bought it I plugged it into a non-GFI circuit (my first mistake) and used it to empty buckets of water in the yard. Everything seemed fine. Thinking I had a quality pump, I started installing a sump and electrical wiring. I dug the hole, filled it with gravel, routed the wiring, installed the GFI circuit and hooked up the pump. Unfortunately, every time…

Extremely Reliable Pumps

A few years ago we had 22 inches of rain in 9 days and declared our area a disaster area. Flooded basements and septic systems were everywhere. As the rain started the pump in our French drain failed and after cleaning and drying I installed a drain pump in the basement. We had two different contractors, one did the dry well and the other installed the sump and pump. I didn't know anything about the pumps at the time, but it struck me that both pumps, installed by different contractors, were…
