I already have the standard mat that came with my Brother Scan N' Cut 2 and I'm having trouble scanning and cutting. To cut I had to remove the plastic cover from the mat and when I had to put it back it flattened completely and then the machine said it couldn't see the mat. I figured I'd be better off just having one for scanning and the other for cutting. With this scan mat, I don't have to remove the plastic cover, so there's very little dust getting between the cover and the mat (unless what you're scanning is dusty, of course). I didn't scan photos, but templates and my typography. One of the most frustrating things about any scanning mat is that it has to be loaded properly, otherwise burrs can appear on the corners and the device will not be able to recognize the mat. If this happens you can be very careful and iron it between fabrics or something but at a very low temperature. You don't want your expensive carpet to melt!
