Review on NewAir G56 5600 Garage Heater by Sara Daly

Nice garage heater, but no switch?

This heater is perfect for my 2 car garage workshop. I added another fan to circulate the air and keep the temperature even throughout the room. Without an additional fan, this heater sometimes turned itself off when the local temperature was slightly higher than the rest of the store. It takes a few hours to warm up the garage on a cold day, but after that it holds the temperature well. I had to do a bit of fiddling to figure out which temperature setting I like best since there are no numbers at all. on the control disc. I found that just over half the dial seemed to give me a good operating temperature without wasting too much energy overheating the magazine. What I also don't like is the lack of an on/off switch. Even at the lowest temperature, the heater sometimes turns on. The only way to really turn it off is to unplug it from the network. That's exactly what the instructions say. It's really annoying when you want to use this as a permanent install in a shop environment. For now I'm leaving it on the lowest setting but I need to find a solution for a switch or maybe a relay to integrate with my home automation system. 30 amp switches aren't cheap either. I hung mine in the corner of the garage. The instructions specifically say "ground only", but I'm a rebel. I don't see why this could be an issue other than needing a ladder to turn it on and off. I used a couple of hanger hooks to hold the handle. I also used a small chain on the back (like the ones you use to hang a lamp in a shop) to tilt the heater down. Here are links to a few things you may need: Romex 10 gauge (10/2 grounded) for servicing the amp. https://amzn.to/2veovDb30 Amplifier Jack (NEMA 6-30R). https://amzn.to/2SUWzgF30 amp/220v switch - depends on your electrical box
