This Microplane is dangerous

Based on reviews I bought this because I needed a wider hard cheese grater than my narrow brand Microplane. From the packaging it was clear that it was impossible to use it safely. The blade surface itself seems good, but the handle is much higher in the plane of the blade than the blade itself, making it impossible to move the block of cheese more than halfway up the surface of the grate. The cheese literally hits the over-thick handle, preventing it from fully extending to start a new grinding stroke. The only way to do this is by pulling back on the piece of cheese at an angle far enough to release the grip, risking your fingers in the process. I learned this the hard way despite being skilled and confident in the kitchen. He tore off a large chunk from the stem, which had not happened in 50 years of grating food on a grater. Save your fingers and buy a Microplane with a handle in the same plane as the grid surface - take a look at the Microplane Elite or Artisan series.
