Review on X ACTO Ranger Manual Pencil Sharpener by Jessica Lewis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sharpens perfectly until lead snags

All-steel construction? Check. Sharpen to a really sharp point? Check. Is it easy to take apart? Yes, as long as you don't want to get to the spinning blades. Why don't they have screws!? The student sharpened a colored pencil (artist) and tried not to put the pencil in, but the lead broke off inside. I wrestled with this for an HOUR trying to get this damn issue out. First I unscrewed the 2 mounting screws, turned it upside down and twisted the handle like crazy to get the wire out. no Unscrew 4 screws dismantling the center and 1 screw from the swivel arm. Looking at the rotating blades, there's no way to dissect it any further. WHY!? I've exhausted my options and now it's a useless machine. I set it up for just 2 weeks. What do I have to do to remove the line? It makes me crazy. I swear if there's an easy fix I'll change this rating to 5 stars in a heartbeat because otherwise it's a fine piece of smart gear. Dear seller, please let me know what to do. UPDATE: It took (no exaggeration) an hour and a half over 2 sessions of poking the barrel, banging the machine against the edge of the table (upside down) and doing a crazy crank spin to FINALLY get the lead out. When I asked about moving the leash, they replied that there was no other way to pull out the leash. So now it's a useless product for my class (very disappointing). I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS! Solid but absolutely idiotic design. GR!
