Review on Tokina 12 24Mm Autofocus Digital Cameras by Leanne Young

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like this lens, suitable for camera lenses

I like this lens, better value than Nikon 12-24. I've had it for about five months now and have fired several hundred shots. Mainly landscapes and architecture with some large and personal shots. This lens has a slight distortion which is easy to fix in Photoshop or DxO if you want to remove the distortion. It can struggle for focus in low light, but it's no worse than the Nikon I've tried. It's built like a tank and doesn't weigh a ton. I like the manual push-pull focus ring, I can switch without having to look for a switch on the side of the lens. Another reviewer said that this lens and the SB600 are not compatible, I've never had a problem, the AF assist light works as long as it's on on the flash, and he also mentioned that it doesn't enlarge the flash head, fine on mine SB600 the usable focal length is 24mm to 85mm. Up close (12mm on lens) I typically use -2 FV compensation. Chromatic aberrations are almost zero except in bright contrasting light. I've used this on manual focus on the D40 and D60 and autofocus on the D90 and D700 and am very happy with the results. Even though it switches to DX on the D700, it still works. I recommend this lens to anyone looking for a wide angle lens for their Nikon.
