Review on Enhanced Communication: Motorola Talkabout T800 Two-Way Radios - Reliable 2 Pack in Striking Black/Blue Design by Eric Pavelko

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Motorola proves they still have it.

Received this when ordering Gotenna units. My wife and I are flying from Korea to the US where we will be on the train for 2 days. We intend to use them as well as Gotennaa and either choose the one we like better or maybe keep both. When testing in Incheon, Korea, we found it very easy to set up. Despite what we've heard from some online reviews, the radio and Bluetooth connected to your phones will automatically restore themselves even after you've turned them off and reconnected. The leading radio station that moves all other radio stations to a new channel is a little finicky, but we're not really going to do much. The range is exactly what it says on the box. In town, expect about 2 miles or 3 km. Less if inside structures. Remember that you can leave the radio on and connected to the window and walk around the house with Bluetooth. Climbing a nearby mountain, we got a great reception 6 miles from the top for another person in town. The 30-second message delay didn't seem to be an issue either, as others have reported. Motorola Solutions is one of the few parts of Motorola that hasn't been sold to another company and it's great to have something from Motorola back home after many years. With Gotenna still not here it's hard to compare but with those 2W and Gotenna's power is 1W so we expect similar range results. The compromise is audio and noaa at Motorola and mesh networking at Gotenna. Yes, and Motorola has removable batteries: lithium-ion or AA.

Pros
  • Voice range up to 35 miles and data range up to 20 miles depending on terrain and conditions.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
