Great concept, weak radio like all FMRS

Phone Bluetooth works and it's a great concept. Plugged in my iphone and was able to text to my mate's samsung. Sitting next to each other worked really well. Real city range was 1.5 miles at best, and only really reliable under a mile. It was in a flat, one-story urban setting. We bought walkie-talkies to try this way of communicating and it was fun and inspired new ideas. They are toys and have achieved this goal. I have background radio

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Expensive

Artificial Bluetooth does not connect to the headset.

When I think of Bluetooth connectivity, I never thought it would mean a set of Bluetooth headphones. Don't buy these if you want to use your good Peltor bluetooth headphones and connect to your phone. You will not. If you're going to give up the lack of cords and use a 3.5mm jack, don't buy it either. It is not a 3.5mm jack plug. In short, my dad and I will still re-enact episodes where an American helicopter yells at each other when we try to use an excavator or when I cut it down a tree.

Works as expected

In general, these are good radios. Pairing and setup was pretty easy with no issues. We took the radios out to test them to see how far they could consistently send and receive location data and texts. The radios were attached to backpacks so they could stand about 4 1/2 feet off the ground. We also had a pair of Garmin Rhino 120 1W radios to compare. Motorola T800 and Rhino 120 showed almost the same results in terms of range. Here's what we found for the maximum usable range: Dense forest…

But the radio is ok.

After testing these little radios in the National Forest (no more than a quarter mile apart), here are my findings: 1. The radio is OK. Medium skills tx/rx.2. Bluetooth setup is easy and quick - Android connection (two Samsung S10 phones running the latest version of Android)3. The Motorola Talkabout app leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, it's similar to what I've seen a lot at Motorola - the MBAs introduced it before the engineers had finished the product. Basically, the TalkAbout app…

Motorola proves they still have it.

Received this when ordering Gotenna units. My wife and I are flying from Korea to the US where we will be on the train for 2 days. We intend to use them as well as Gotennaa and either choose the one we like better or maybe keep both. When testing in Incheon, Korea, we found it very easy to set up. Despite what we've heard from some online reviews, the radio and Bluetooth connected to your phones will automatically restore themselves even after you've turned them off and reconnected. The leading

Cons

Good product, could be great.

I ordered these radios specifically for the messaging and data functions and was dying to try them. The radios themselves feel pretty solid, with an easy-to-use menu system and a nice bright display. The sound quality is good. Pairing the iPhone with radios via the Motorola Talkabout app was easy and setting up the radio features via the app is very easy and intuitive. One of the most attractive features of the platform is the messaging system; However, the app isn't perfect, with some very…

First I would like to point out that I am a licensed radio amateur. I am not mentioning this fact to impress you, but to convey the fact that I have better means of communication than a pair of FRS/GMRS radios. So why should I? Easy. Not everyone is licensed, and sometimes I might want to hang out with my spouse or someone else in a more relaxed environment. For example, hiking, camping, etc. Disclaimer: The FCC requires a license to use the GMRS frequencies on this radio. What is that…
