Like most people who even consider this sharpener, I'm an avid cook with good knives and I need a tool that will help keep them in tip-top shape. I did a lot of research and used ATK's recommendation as my final solution for this sharpener. Despite reading some negative reviews, I figured it was user error and there's a chance I could end up with a faulty device. Well it was defective but I really didn't expect the defect to be that this sharpener would measure the sides of my knives. I was doing a practice run with an old knife and had some blade alignment issues so I attributed the cleaning to that. But after working out the excesses, I went to sharpen my trusty (more expensive) chef's knife and the same thing happened. Sorry but no sharpener, especially at this price point, should ever do that! If it is true that the customer service says that you have to tape the sides of the knife, then they are not authorized to sell this device. It will be back in a moment, but the calibers will always be in my knife as a bad souvenir from my Trizor XV.
