Review on ๐Ÿšฒ RockShox 30 Silver TK Fork: 26", 100mm, Coil, 9mm QR, Crown Adjustment, 1-1/8" Aluminum Steerer, Disc and Rim Brake Compatibility by Mike Travers

Good job refreshing an old trek.

It weighs half the weight of my original fork and is a welcome addition when I ride the roads and trails almost every night. I've clocked almost 300 miles on this unit. While it has limited off-road or mountain use, it mostly weaves through active sprinklers and "unapproved" dirt roads while you sleep. However, it handles all the curbs, potholes, wheels, jumps, limbs, bottles, rocks (and even a "pothead", but that's another story). He's even taken on a 9-point deer AND got chased by a coyote (those monkey lanterns [bought here] are a 'wild' magnet [bats too!]). At 6 ft 3 in - 213 lbs I state that while the average spring rate is a little light for me, I have never lowered it or gotten closer than 2cm to these buckles (pictured). , even at a lockout setting of less than 50 percent. This brings me to my main complaint when the lockout setting is set to "tighter" than 50%, which I prefer when navigating small bumps and the like, even tears/seams. It easily goes into a full lockout position on its own in a black top, requiring either constant readjustment or minimal cushioning, but it will hold the set setting at less than 50% lockup. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars because I deliberately bought a medium-speed coil spring fork. Eventually I'll try to glue it in place, but I can't bring myself to cover up that "Purdie handle". 26 x 2.3 tire that's as big as it looks (comes with no pre-removed fender, reflective tape, or factory decal).

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • There are drawbacks
