My mom just cut off the tops which lost some of the fruit. But this little tool makes strawberry season a breeze. It plucks the stems and minimizes waste. Our family uses about 30-40 pounds of strawberries each season between canning, freezing and baking. The last potato peeler lasted about 10 years. In fact, the only reason I had to order a new one was because I accidentally tossed our last one down the garbage chute. Oops. Conclusion: This little tool will help you a lot if you process a lot of berries. It's much faster and safer than a paring knife. I highly recommend it.
