2000 Honda Foreman 450es purchased from the 20 year old original owner. The story was that they turned it on its side and the electrical swap failed. I installed the sensor and didn't notice an immediate change. The shifter was DOA and had to be shifted manually by hand, it only showed R or 1, gears 2-5 were shown as "--" in the display. Mobil1 10w40 Full Synthetic & Hiflo filters have been replaced, the oil in them is pretty bad and low. I used it for gardening anyway and worked a bit hard to change it with the emergency tool - a bit annoying after a few hours but you can still get it working. The next day I turned it back on and it magically worked like new. It shifts all gears perfectly and the gauge is also awake and corrected. I can't pinpoint what actually fixed it. Definitely better than replacing the entire shift motor. The sensor may have had to "recalibrate itself". My takeaway from this is to check and change the oil and filter and make sure they are at the correct level before buying this. I'm not sure if the shift motor is connected to the oil pan, but. Scroll the gears a bit and toggle it on and off to reset the processor. Still dead? Install a new sensor and do the same thing again, maybe you'll remember, good luck everyone.
