Review on πŸ”Š Flush Mount 2nd Gen by Mount Genie - Wall/Ceiling Built-in Speaker Mount with Included Wiring (1-pack) by Dan Pal

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It fails on many levels.

Firstly I only give it 2 stars because it exists but it has many problems for such a simple product. The product proudly claims to be an "award winning design" although I have no idea who won that award. It's designed to fit the Gen 2 Dot with friction, it doesn't hang loose and falls out easily when mounted to the ceiling, Strike 1. There's no mechanical attachment mechanism, it relies on a hole saw that uses a 3 5/8 -inch hole drill , not quite normal the size the average person has and I really don't see the average person being able to cut a hole for a friction fit with a keyhole saw and if you screw it in and make it too big there really is no backup plan, Strike 2 The product doesn't clean the echo cable even if drilled, and it requires an extra "keyway" although a perfectly drilled hole is needed, Strike 3. I mean it's basically just a pretty cheap plastic bezel along with some cables that you may or may not use. I would complain less if it was half the price and the cables were sold separately, even if you bought the mount and cable and ended up costing a few bucks. more. I would complain less if it was sold as a wall mount, not recommended for ceilings but it isn't. I'd complain less if they included a basic U mount like their "3rd Gen Bracket" but they don't. Especially for me I had a fiberglass drop ceiling panel with an existing hole in it where an octagonal box was located where the pendant light used to be. It's a 3 1/2" octagon, the fiberglass ceiling panels aren't particularly stiff and while they were fairly firm, a slight push could cause the mount to fall off and of course the tip would fall out easily too the bracket. I managed to bend some retail staples to hold the bracket in place, which were made from already white false ceiling hooks, and tape a few strips of thin foam sealant to a few places in the bracket. worked and is usable but honestly it worked because it was a removable tile that I could access from both sides. The idea is to mount the Echo Dot to the ceiling with a mount that is essentially held in place if you use the hole for a friction fit and use the included double-sided foam tape to secure the Echo in the mount an extra consideration" which one finds better than "friction fit", well no. much more confidence in a relatively cheap piece of electronics than I have because if it's an echo that dies you basically have to visualize the hole, which the mount sits in, which probably isn't reusable to be able to pop it out picked up and now dead echo from the mount So again, I'm not sure who gave this product the "Award" it was because, it was awarded simply because such a product even exists, and yes, well, it does exist and it saved it from a one star rating.
