Review on 7artisans 7.5mm F2.8 II V2.0 APS-C Format Fisheye Lens: 190° Angle of View, Sony Emount Compatibility | Includes Protective Lens Cap, Lens Hood, and Carrying Bag by Tammy Formigoni

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Amazing macro fisheye capabilities for the price! Concerned about the dangers of LENS CAP.

For the price it deserves 5 stars and some of its features do too. Worried about the lens cap. The MACRO capabilities of this fisheye lens are amazing. Additionally, sharpness and resolution at the appropriate center of the image can be surprisingly good for very close-up shots/macro, especially considering my first few low-light (non-macro) shots gave me halfway mediocre results. I took some pictures yesterday. Photographs of interiors during the day in some artist studios and I got surprisingly good results too. LA-EA2 Sony Alpha to E mount converter on my early Sony Nex 7. (in conjunction with Sony A6000 e-series mounts). This 7.5mm f2.8 lens at Revain's current price is a tiny fraction of even the very affordable Sigma. It seems that the Sigma (at this early stage of the 7.5mm vs 7.5mm comparison) has significantly better overall performance, which is understandable. because it is 5 times more expensive. However, the 7artisan shines when using MACRO, and you can get up to twice as close to the subject being photographed as with the higher quality Sigma. There is a HUGE one that suits me, but if you want something pocket sized, 7artisan will do it. closer to working with macros but I think judging by the Samyang/Rokinon reviews it would be difficult otherwise 7artisan would have outperformed. but I don't know that as a fact. So the bottom line is that at this price point for a 7 7.5mm f2.8 craftsman you can't go wrong with ONE BIGGEST PROBLEM and here the low price doesn't make up for the problem (in my experience yet), it's a crappy LENS CAP! The one on my unit is so tight to the lens and it's a friction clutch, not threaded, that removing and replacing requires so much torque that it tugs at the lens and camera mount. too difficult in the process. So maybe my device is defective and I need to try to replace it, or maybe there is a trick or method that I don't know to remove and put the lens cap back on, so I'll also post a QUESTION about that in the Questions section . Perhaps a repairman or experienced craftsman could gently grind the inner diameter of the lens cap and thus fix the pressure problem, or perhaps there is another way to change it and again perhaps my only block or my own clumsy hands are the problem. So 5 stars for the macro, 4 stars for everything else and 1 star for the dangerous lens cap. A really fun lens and, as others have noted, beautifully packaged. PICTURES: (I really regret that Revain chose to allow very small sample images. In the distant past they allowed large samples that someone could actually use to make a sensible purchasing decision. and that seems questionable so maybe they will be large enough to see them. in real life they show amazingly good detail. The first image is a section of the skin of a cantaloupe but with ZERO sharpening or levels/contrast changes or any changes. from a jpeg as shot. The second picture is the (same picture from RAW but with sharpening and levels/contrast. The next three pictures are full or cropped from ONE SINGLE PICTURE of the group of flowers. On the narrowest frames some hair detail should be visible, such as the Texture of parts of the flower stem) Good luck and have fun and let us explain how to open the lens cap more easily and sc closes, or ask mfg FIX THAT. (For this reason I have to return the lens again, and with tears of regret).
