Review on Efficient Camco RV Roof Vent Cover: Optimal Air Ventilation for Your RV, Rain or Shine by Paul Sanchez

The price was right but I saw some reviews that indicated buyers were disappointed with the durability of the product. Camco RV vent caps are made from a different material than (much more expensive) vent caps. So for a fraction of the cost I don't have the same expectations as if I bought the more expensive ones. However, I wiped them down with UV protection before applying them and plan to reapply this product a few times a year to try and increase their durability. I live in the Southwest where the ultraviolet is very strong. Installation was easy. It is MUCH easier to understand the installation instructions by watching the Camco video rather than trying to read the printed instructions. With that in mind, here are some tips to make your installation easier and faster. They list several items that you need for the installation. The pencil is an object. You will also need a marker (not on their list). Attempting to mark a gray metal vent frame with a gray pencil makes it almost impossible to see the mark (for drilling). They recommend using a small crescent wrench. If you have the correct size open end wrenches (2 nut sizes) you will find that they are much easier to use than the recommended crescent wrench. Also, it may be easier to first drill a small pilot hole (in the roof vent frame) and then the final hole (optional step). I also removed the logo sticker from the sides of the vent covers. I don't have to be a mobile advertising poster for Camco. They come off very easily. They also warn you not to overtighten the gear. However, the 2 screws holding the slat cover to the flat side of the cover are VERY easy to remove (metal screw to plastic). So just tighten them lightly or you will find that they are completely stripped off. After drilling and installing the brackets to the roof fan frame, I covered the screw heads with some overlapping sealant (again, optional, non-directional). I bought the black one to cover my bed to reduce the amount of light that gets in during the early hours of the morning. He seemed to be doing just fine with it. I've also seen a few reviews indicating that the lids restrict the vents from opening. I found I could open them wide. Eventually you can reach the top of the lid, but at this point the roof vents are wide open. I don't see that as a problem. So overall (so far) it's good value for money. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was how easily the screws holding the grille in place came loose. Of course, the one thing all vent cover manufacturers talk about is airflow.
