Works well for flat surfaces but on roughly hewn wood or wood with live edges, small changes in the wood will tear the edges of the sponge fairly quickly. The grain is quite durable so it seems like they'll last a while otherwise. One minor complaint is that they don't list which sponge is which grit. If you have all 4 in front of you it's not that hard to line them up, but if you only had one on hand it would be a little harder to tell which grit you were working with. I took a sharpie to the unscarred side to mark while I still have all 4 in one place.
