This allows you to use your favorite iOS headset on your PC. I use several different laptops and it's easy for me to use this adapter to make my headset work with all of them. (Windows 10, 8.1) This is of course not necessary on my MacBook Air. I believe Windows PCs have a set of standards and NONE of the manufacturer's websites clearly states which headsets are compatible. This effectively adds a new sound card to the PC with an Apple headphone jack. I've used it with both a regular headset and BOSE noise canceling headphones with great success.
