Review on Tabiger Soldering 110V Adjustable Temperature Welding by John Vann

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent enough for non-professional, light, casual use.

SUMMARY: Great value set for people who only solder occasionally but not at a professional level. Generates a lot of heat, but unknown durability. The item is not unique to this seller's (ie reseller's) website. I had no problem keeping the puddle a good size and merging some of the tin parts. (Most solders are tin.) INCLUDED: * Iron 60W 200-450C with 6 different tips. * Sponge * Soldering suction cup * Soldering coil 40/60 (tin/lead) x 0.8mm * Stamped steel stand * Foam and hard plastic case. DETAILS: I have a Weller station and it's somewhat portable. I took this to replace the Radio Shack stick. For that, it's an improvement. It's all pretty cheap. Now that I've bought this, there are similar kits for a few bucks less, but that's pretty cheap. The parts fit together, but the cable clamp slips out of the housing a bit. The center body is all plastic and there is a rubber boot at the threaded connection to keep it from falling apart too easily. I twisted everything again. It's definitely not as durable as the old 15w Radio Shack irons. Inside is a ceramic heater with a woven insulator. It is free on the inside and has an air gap except for the tip. Do not drop it on the bench, otherwise the heater may break. There is a red LED next to the temperature controller and the temperature controller is marked with a sticker from 200 to 450 ° C. I'm pretty sure this will slip and might not even be very accurate. BUT it *is* a variable resistor for heating, so it's way better than a regular iron. The power cord is two-wire and non-polarized. The cable is quite heavy. It doesn't mean it's listed by any safety agency. It comes with an instruction manual showing the website and basic information about the iron and its accessories. This is not surprising unless you are new to soldering. They also make sure to state that they are an "honest seller," which is like adding the word "quality" to a product name. If so, you don't need to talk about it. Also, some pages of the site contain gibberish (like Lorem ipsum, but in English) and other nonsensical marketing filler. Your product list does not include this soldering iron. One problem is that you shouldn't use it on a traditional vertical stand. If the tip is lowered and left in place, the plastic will eventually soften/melt. I used it for about 10 minutes and had no problems. He was only slightly warm. It comes with multiple tips: fine, medium, thick, chisel, thick chisel and extra wide angle. It comes with some decent pointed curved tweezers. Very similar to some inexpensive ones I already have. The tips are strong enough and quite sharp. Coated in black paint which is said to be anti-static. It has a "stand" which is really just a piece of stamped sheet metal. It can be bent to use as a stand, but then it won't fit in the storage box. Kind of an oversight as it breaks after a few repeated flexes. Good for this price range although the iron is round and cannot use a regular stand. A little annoying. It also came with a pre-shredded/dried sponge. Although there is no tray. normal things. Use a damp sponge to clean the tip of the iron as flux residue will build up. Also, tin the tip regularly as it picks up other metals from your work pieces. There is a solder suction cup, spring loaded. Nothing surprising. Difficult to use as it is standalone. Maybe if you have three hands or are very skilled. I would prefer to use a solder wick most of the time, but I could experiment. It also has 40/60 solder. Works as it should. Don't use it on food or water appliances, but it's great for electronics. I've also used it to weld some lead free tin parts and the puddle was fine. The iron itself gave off enough heat to hold a fairly large puddle. Everything comes in a small plastic case which is a bit bulky but keeps me from losing all the details. The only real problem is that the stand cannot be stored once it's bent into a usable shape. In fact, at the "discount" price, this is a good deal. Much more power than a 15w pencil. But it's *cheap*. The tolerances are not big. Maybe it will work until I break it, or maybe it will fail. I do not know yet. This is still pretty new to me. It worked as expected, right out of the box. I'm assuming there's no guarantee after Revain took it back. AFTER I bought this one I found many almost identical irons for less than the discount on this one. They didn't have a case, but I already have a box for the kit. I have already used it and the price difference is not worth returning. Just check everything before you decide on one.
