Too Good To Be True Aquarium Heater

I was thrilled when I saw this super affordable programmable heater from a popular aquarium brand. Turns out it's too good to be true. My first thought when I took it out of the box was that it's quite large for a heater rated for a 12 gallon or smaller aquarium. It's almost the same height as my 10 gallon. However, I could ignore this if the heating is working well. The first night I put it on my 10 gallons and set it at 78 degrees. I got up the next morning and my tank was 88 degrees. Thank god it was only on a tank riding a bike. I turned it down to its lowest setting (68 degrees I guess) and thought it was only 10 degrees. Then all my thermometers (aquarium thermometer and thermal gun) showed 70 degrees. I reset it to 78 and left it overnight, the next morning it still reads 70 degrees. The light is on constantly, indicating it's heating up, but it never changes temperature, and the heater doesn't even feel the slightest warmth to the touch. Inaccurate and obviously unreliable. Literally after 3 days he stopped working.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • It's OK
